OUR SAVIOR'S HISTORY
God has blessed Our Savior Lutheran Church throughout its 40+
year history. From the very first worship service on July 30, 1961 in Howser Mortuary to the present day, the Holy Spirit has
been at work in our midst. He has called us to be DISCIPLES of Jesus Christ and that's exactly what we are. We have followed
His lead and direction. The founders of Our Savior,
who were members of Christ, Grace and Mount Olive Lutheran Churches, could never have imagined what God's plans were for
this congregation. The very first year the congregation
averaged 105 in worship. On January 7, 1962, the congregation was formally organized. There were 152 charter members.
As the congregation outgrew the mortuary, its worship services
moved to Norfolk Junior College auditorium. The first service there was April 7, 1963.
On February 23, 1964, the original building on this site was
dedicated. In 1976 an addition was built and dedicated to the glory of God. In 1998 the third addition was dedicated.
Today, 40 years later, Our Savior Lutheran has more than 1600
members and averages more than 700 in worship. We have had the privilege and joy of baptizing over 700 children in addition to
more than 40 adults.
Under the grace of God, we will continue to serve His kingdom
and purpose.
