The Lutheran
Women's Missionary League -- at Our Savior Lutheran Church, named Tabitha Society
-- is the women's arm of the church. Its goal is mission inspiration, mission
education and mission service. This is accomplished through Bible study, retreats
and conventions. From time to time, inspirational speakers present programs at
the meetings.
Our Tabitha Society is has
a Morning Circle which meets at 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Quarterly meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in January,
April, July and September, with a special Christmas party in December. This Christmas
party for several years has been a Christmas dinner for people from the Norfolk
Regional Center.
Other activities of the
group have been to serve meals at the Norfolk Rescue Mission, to man the Food
Pantry for a month each year, to deliver Meals on Wheels, to serve for weddings,
pastoral conferences and funerals and to hold an annual rummage sale. Furnishing
the church kitchen has been their special duty. The society contributes monetarily
to various charitable organizations.
Each member has a mite box
into which she drops her spare coins. These coins, together with those of other
league members nationwide has helped to fund millions of dollars for mission projects.
